iScan - Police and Fire Scanner App Reviews

I was listening to agency where a relative works and noticed the mapping tab put the agency on the wrong side of the state for location. I advised them of that and also requested if there was a possibility of a entry of agencies where we have a second home. I received an email 2 days later thanking me for the info and request. The map was corrected and the new agency had been entered. Impressive response.

I just purchased only to discover that my area (a county at that) is not listed. Very unhappy.

I bought this hoping that my city/county would be in the listing. i was disappointed to see that it wasn’t. i emailed Beans Bytes and asked if they could add it to the list. After a couple days of waiting patiently, my city/ county was added. Very satisfied with this customer service. Thank you!

They added a feed for me right away, contact you right back.... very great APP and worth money for some fun… thanks.

I requested a couple of feeds to be added and within a day, they were done and I was using them. I am a firefighter for a small town and I use this all to keep tuned in. Now I have the channels I need. If the feed you are looking for is missing, simply email them.

The application itself is a good program that does everything promised, with good audio support and a broad selection of feeds, without unnecessary fluff. But the amazing part is the tech support- there were two feeds missing that I was most interested in. A quick email to the Beans Bytes people and they were added within 24 hours! All tech support should be like this. Highly recommended!!!

This is just like listening to your local police and fire scanner! The app is just what is says it is… and it’s truly so easy to use! I requested from support that an area to be added and it was done right away!!!!! Very thankful it was this easy!

im not sure how this averages a 4 star rating. its pretty good if you don’t care that most of the stations dont work. i gave it 2 stars because i can hear one of the municipalities listed in my state. thought this would be fun but its not then again what can you expext for $1.99 lol

This app has so fewe feeds on it. My iphone apps has light years more feeds. Request fro my local feeds went unanswered. I just want a refund this app is useless.

When i first purchased this app the city i live in was not listed. i at 1st thought i had wasted my money but decided to go to the help files and saw a “request a location addition”tab. I requested them to add my city and within 24 hours it was listed. I am very satified with it now and i use it all the time.

I needed a station added and the developer quickly added it! Glad to see updates happening and further development. Works great for me and does what I need it to do!

I sent an email earlier today regarding some problems. I’m happy to report that my issues were fixed, and I got an email from this outfit. I have to say; I’m more than impressed!!! My wife and I listen to our local sherrif & police daily as we play Scrabble. This is a great product!

This app is user friendly. Transmission audibility is not a problem. The accompanying map is helpful. I have encountered a few locations that are indexed under the wrong state. The strongest asset of this app is support. Contact with iScan is prompt and personal. I am especially pleased with the willingness of iScan to add additional locations and agencies to the library of accessable agencies. I would REALLY be pleased if at some point iScan offered railroads and Coast Guard & maritime frequencies, which I also monitor, but they are available from internet sites.

A good app for metropolis areas, don’t bother if you are in a smaller city. Apps like this need to really be reviewed before putting them out to the public.

I’ve been using ScannerLive in a Windows environment for years but am trying to get as much of my production software migrated to OSX as possible. iScan looked to be the only thing with a semi-robust feed list with an intuitive interface. On installation, everything worked as advertised… except no sound. I verified that the feeds I’d selected were operational by running ScannerLive beside it. It took a full system reboot to get audio to work… until it didn’t. Every other start of the application required a reboot to get sound. No bueno. Also, I’m not sure why we have to contact the developer to add a listening stream. It wouldn’t be an issue if there were any responsiveness, but emails seem to go into a black hole. I’m sure the developer is either doing this for fun or for income on the side, but when the instructions say to contact the developer, and there is no response within a couple days, that’s a problem, especially since this is a pay-for app. I wouldn’t complain if it were free. Sad to say, I’ll continue running a Windows emulator to get my scanner feeds (more than one at the same time, at that) until a better OSX alternative comes along. Hope I can one day change this review to be more positive.

Select the state, then the county EMS feed and get no audio at all. The volume slide is greyed out. Don’t bother with the “Help” - it states there is no “Help”. I’d be emarassed to put this on the market

Nice to see app still gets updated! My feed wasn’t on list. Requested it. And there it is! Had a suggestion. He listened and added feature next update. I use this app every time I hear the fire alarm go off. (Sometimes my feed might be down, but it’s not because of this app! I just call down to local dispatch and tell them feed is down and they reset system.) Awesome App!!! A little buggy at times since last update.

Do not purchase! It’s a waste of time and money. 4 out of 5 times, the streaming is offline. It’s so frustrating, especially when I was so excited and looking forward to this app! UGH!
